IDScan Application

Last Updated: February 2026

Strict Privacy Commitment: IDScan operates entirely offline. Your personal data never leaves your device.

This Privacy Policy describes how the IDScan ("we", "us", or "our") application handles your information. Our application is designed with a "privacy-first" and "local-first" architecture. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any external servers.

Information Collection and Use

We require access to certain device features to provide the app's core functionality. All processing happens locally on your device.

Camera Access

We use the camera solely for scanning documents (like ID cards and passports) to extract text via OCR (Optical Character Recognition). The images are processed in real-time on your device's memory and are not uploaded anywhere.

NFC Access (Near Field Communication)

We use the NFC sensor to read the chip data from biometric passports and ID cards. This interaction occurs directly between your device and your document. No data is intercepted or transmitted externally.

Biometrics

We use your device's biometric sensors (fingerprint/face unlock) exclusively to secure access to the app itself. We do not collect or store your biometric data; we simply rely on the Android system's verification result.

Data Storage and User Responsibility

All data extracted from documents is stored in a secure local database (using Android Room) on your device. This database is sandboxed, meaning other apps cannot access it without your explicit permission.

Your Data, Your Control: You are the sole owner of your data. The information extracted by the app resides only on your device.

You have full control to delete any or all data at any time directly within the application. Once deleted from your device, the data is permanently irretrievable as no backups are kept on our servers.

By using the app, you acknowledge and agree to the terms outlined in the First Use GDPR Agreement presented upon your initial launch of the application. This agreement confirms your understanding that you are solely responsible for the management and security of the data stored on your device.

Internet Access

The IDScan application does not request or use the `android.permission.INTERNET` permission. It is technically impossible for the app to send data to the internet.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Since the app does not connect to the internet, updates to the policy will be communicated through application updates via the Google Play Store. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
